The Manuscript Institution of Türkiye (TÜYEK) is an institution housing hundreds of thousands of manuscript copies, which preserve the intellectual heritage of Islamic and Turkish history and cultural geography, and circulate the sources of science, art, and thought of ancient civilizations, and contain their new interpretations.
TÜYEK continues its services with 26 manuscript libraries, including the historical Süleymaniye Library, along with the Beyazıt, Millet, Yusuf Ağa, İnebey, and Tire Necip Paşa manuscript libraries. Our institution holds the richest collections in the world in terms of the historical identity, content, artistic, and material elements of works that have reached the present day through the contributions of tens of thousands of authors, calligraphers, copyists, bookbinders, illuminators, and book collectors across a vast geography and throughout the centuries, from the Umayyads to the Ottomans.
Since its establishment, our institution has undertaken significant activities and is planning new projects to enhance its influence both nationally and internationally as it marks its 15th anniversary. In this regard, the 1st International Manuscript Symposium will be organized by our institution on 10-12 December, 2025. Designed as the first of a series of symposiums, this event aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working across a broad spectrum of themes related to manuscripts such as their production, preservation, circulation, internal and external elements, artistic and aesthetic aspects, classification, cataloguing, digitization, and restoration. Through this event, the connection between various disciplines will be strengthened, and proposals for identifying and solving issues in the field of manuscripts will be presented. Additionally, by creating centralized information systems based on statistical data, the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence-supported new methods and applications in the field of manuscripts will be evaluated on both theoretical and practical levels.

SYMPOSIUM INFORMATION
- The sessions of the 1st International Manuscript Symposium will be held on 10-12 December, 2025, in İstanbul at the Rami Library, Süleymaniye Manuscript Library and Beyazıt Manuscript Library as parallel sessions.
- Applications for the symposium must be made by filling out the form provided in the link.
- Applications will be accepted individually or as panels. Panel proposals should consist of three or four papers. For panel applications, a common panel title must be determined, and each panellist must upload an abstract of their paper separately, specifying the panel title.
- Each researcher can participate in the symposium with only one paper.
- The languages of the symposium are Turkish, Arabic, and English.
- The presentation time is 15 minutes.
- The full text of the papers presented at the symposium must be between 3000 and 7500 words. Abstracts of the papers will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee, and only those deemed appropriate by the Committee will be accepted. If approved by the Committee, the presented papers will be published in book form by the Manuscript Institution of Türkiye.
- Only abstracts prepared in the format specified below will be accepted for symposium applications.
- Abstract: The abstract should provide information about the topic of the paper, the purpose and scope of the study, its method, primary sources, and the paper's unique contribution to the field. It should be between 150-250 words.
- Abstract Text: The abstract can be in Turkish, Arabic, or English.
- Email Address: The institution and title information should be included along with the email address.
- There is no participation fee for the symposium.
- Transportation and accommodation expenses are the responsibility of the participants.

- Announcement of Accepted Papers: June 20, 2025
- Full Paper Submission Deadline: October 30, 2025
- Where will the symposium take place?
The International Manuscript Symposium will be held in İstanbul.
- Do I need to pay a fee to participate?
There is no fee required for participation in the symposium.
- Will transportation and accommodation be provided by the organization?

There will be no online presentations at the symposium.
- Can I submit the paper without making a presentation?
Papers will not be accepted without a presentation.

Each participant can make only one presentation at the symposium.

Papers that are positively reviewed by the Scientific Committee will be published.
- Where will the papers be published?
The papers will be published exclusively in the editorial book prepared by the Manuscripts Institution of Türkiye.
- Will there be a cultural tour?
Yes, various cultural tours will be organized during the symposium.
